How do you write a haiku poem?

 Haiku is one type of short poem and it contains only three lines. Haiku is able to capture the feelings or an image. Japanese poets have developed this poem and they are inspired by a special moment or nature. To develop a haiku poem, they need to think about various ideas for the poem. After collecting the ideas, they are able to write poems with their imagery. Every haiku poet needs to listen to this poem so they can develop the best haiku poem. To write a haiku poem, a writer needs to follow a few steps. Few steps are discussed below:

Brainstorming Ideas:

Most of the haiku poets inspired by the beauty of nature. They can collect their ideas from the tree, rocks flowers and mountains. To brainstorm ideas, every poet needs to walk into nature or go for a long hike in the mountains. Mountain is a good source of ideas. They can get their beautiful imagery from the mountains. A river or lake is a good source where a poet can get their ideas. A poet needs to spend lots of time to get their ideas.

  Due to physical difficulties, many poets are unable to go outside to collect their ideas. They need to look at nature's photographs. The Internet is the best source for physically challenged poets.

This poem can also be about a specific season, like spring, fall, winter, or summer. A poet can determine a specific event that can occur at any time of year, like blooming of a flower or it can be a fish swim in the river.

Writing skills:

Haiku's poem follows a few rules: it must have three lines and the syllable structure is five-seven-five. It means the first line must have five syllables, seven syllables will have in the second line, and five syllables will have in the last line.

Haikus is able to provide brief sense to every reader.  Every poet must think about the subject smells, sounds, feels, looks and tastes. Poets must describe the subject using their senses so the poem can be alive to the reader and the reader can feel the poem.

A poet must avoid abstract or huge descriptions. Apart from a description, a poet can provide concrete images. This is helpful to read and visualize the situations for the readers. Apart from using a simile or metaphor, a poet can describe the unique subject with every detail.

Polishing the poem:

After writing the poem, a poet must read it several times. They need to listen carefully how it sounds. A poem must follow the five-seven-five syllable count. A poem must be sound natural.

Every poet must get feedback from the other poet about the haiku poem. They must ask about the poem who knows the haiku poems. Writers must place the poem at the center of the page so that lines can be forms like a diamond shape. Every haiku poem follows this format.

A poet can add the title at the top of the poem, and they must avoid long titles. Titles are not necessary for the haiku. Many popular haiku do not have any titles.
